Washington County Even Start Program, Tic Tac Toe Math, December 9, 2004
This three hour session provided adult education instructors and their adult students with hands-on instruction to the unique method that Dr. Cooper developed for individuals whose math skills have been held back because they have not been able to learn the multiplication facts. Teachers and students learned the patterns that enable them to make the times tables from 1 through infinite of both whole numbers, factions and decimals. The session begins with the basic patterns and the 9 single digit grids. The participants then learn to make the times tables 1 to 20. After a break, they returned to learn how to make double and multi-digit Tic Tac Toe Grids and use them to complete multiplication and division operations. The session concluded with a brief demonstration of how to use Tic Tac Toe Math for solving operations involving fractions, decimals and percentages.

What
techniques will you use in your classroom this week?
v
I will try all,
but wish it could have been an all day lecture.
v
I will try to use
all the techniques I learned today.
v
I believe all the
techniques I learned will continue using.

All
v
The times tables
v
Grids.
v
Probably
multiplication and fractions.
v
All
of them.

How easy once
concept is grasped.
v
Using the multiple

v
Not sure
yet—need a little more time for fractions and percents—exciting, though.
In your
opinion, what would be the most effective delivery of this training (online,
face-to-face, or distance)?
v
Good.
